Preparing images of your artwork for the web
by Owen Mundy, April 20th, 2011
Whether you are using a Content Management System (CMS) like Indexhibit and Wordpress or are creating your website yourself these image settings may come in handy.
- Once you have your image open in Photoshop, go to Image > Image Size
- We can ignore Document Size settings, as we are working for the screen.
-
Change the Pixel Dimensions
- If you are using a CMS then you will want it to be no larger than 1000 pixels wide and 700 pixels tall. This will ensure that the entire image can be seen on any browser. If you have a theme that calls for a smaller file don't worry, CMS should scale it as necessary.
- If you are creating your own site then you will adjust your Pixel Dimensions of your image based on the layout of your website.
- Click OK
- Select where you want to save the file
- Choose Format: JPEG
-
In the second dialog box, JPEG Options...
- Matte: None
- Quality: High
- Baseline ("Standard")
- Click: Save
- Edit the Exhibit where you want to add images.
- Upload your image at the bottom of the page.
- A thumbnail will appear.
- In the upper-right corner of the Exhibit Edit page you can choose between a variety of Exhibition Formats based on your preferences.
