How to change your nameservers

by Owen Mundy, March 15th, 2010

Nameservers tell your domain name registrar how to find your files on the YourArtHere.net webserver. They are a required part of the Domain Name System (DNS) that translates your domain name into Internet Protocal (IP) addresses. Without them you would have to give others a string of ambiguous numbers to share your website instead of yourname.com

To set the nameservers if your domain name is registered with godaddy.com

  1. Log into your godaddy.com account
  2. Click Domains
  3. Click Domain Manager
  4. Click on the name of your domain in the list
  5. Look for Nameservers and click Manage
  6. Replace their nameserver 1 and nameserver 2 with the following:
  7. Click OK
  8. Changes can take up to 48 hours to take effect (though it is usally much quicker).
