Details TPTP in 6-Bits is a collaborative piece that merges Lossless Processing (Adam Tindale + Jordan Tate) and Error (Ryan Boatright) to investigate conceptual concerns of image sorting with the determination of the accuracy of color reproduction in a live loop that compares reality with its digital reproduction. At TPTP, the artists share their interest in questioning the representational nature of photography from technological, conceptual, and theoretical perspectives.

The installation is comprised of a custom designed computer/camera system, a physical color target, and two LCD monitors. As viewers interact with the TPTP art space, their colors are analyzed in real time, and pixel-by-pixel shifted to a 6-bit color space (comprised of 64 possible colors). The colors include ones found on a popular color target (Macbeth ColorChecker), colors representative of a myriad of skin tones and ethnicities seen through google, as well as colors found within one of the artist’s wardrobe. One LCD monitor will present the live visual representation of this shifting while another displays a black and white representation of the amount of shifting (or error) that occurs. Visitors will be constantly aware of their surveillance and analysis, while simultaneously viewing themselves processed in real time to conform to the homogenized 6-bit color palette.

Jordan Tate, Adam Tindale, and Ryan Boatright were artists in residence through an online arts residency program established by TINT, an UK based interdisciplinary media arts organization.TINT is dedicated to art which is derived from, and reflects upon the intersections of technology and culture.
